Sound Insulation Law of Large-Sized Thin-Film Honeycomb Acoustic Metamaterial

Abstract: Based on a design integrating single-layer PET film and single-layer aluminum honeycomb,this study developed a large-sized thin-film honeycomb acoustic metamaterial.Experimental investigations were conducted to comprehensively analyze the effects of honeycomb core parameters—side length,wall thickness,and height—on the sound insulation performance,along with proposing a novel evaluation metric,that is,the ratio of average sound insulation to surface density.The results demonstrate that the sound insulation performance of the metamaterial exceeds the prediction of the mass law within the 400~1 600 Hz frequency range.Superior acoustic performance is achieved when the honeycomb core possesses a side length of 2 mm,a wall thickness of 0.06 mm,and a height of 10 mm.Higher acoustic efficiency is observed when the honeycomb core has a side length of 7 mm,a wall thickness of 0.05 mm,and a height of 7 mm.
