Abstract: By reviewing and screening the literature on the treatment of periodontitis with excessive stomach fire in Chinese medicine from 1995 to 2024,which was included in databases such as CNKI,Wanfang,and VIP,this paper summarizes the research progress of Chinese medicine in the treatment of this disease.The results show that periodontitis falls within the category of "tooth socket wind and tooth bleeding" in Chinese medicine.The most common clinical syndrome is excessive stomach fire,which is caused by accumulated heat in the stomach ascending along the meridians.The treatment principle is to clear stomach heat and purge fire,cool blood and detoxify.The clinical treatment methods of periodontitis with excessive stomach fire in Chinese medicine are diverse,including traditional Chinese herbal medicine,acupuncture,auricular point plaster,and gargling.The main treatment method in clinical practice is traditional Chinese medicine,with frequently used herbs including coptis,rehmannia,paeonia,cimicifuga,and angelica.The therapeutic mechanism mainly involves reducing the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines,reducing oxidative stress responses,inhibiting the growth of periodontal pathogenic bacteria,and enhancing the activity of periodontal ligament stem cells.The treatment of this disease with Chinese medicine is effective,safe,has few side effects,and is well accepted by patients.
