Abstract:

Determination of trace manganese in drinking water through a simple hollow-core metal cladding waveguide (HCMW) structure and a modified chromometry is proposed in this paper.Owing to the high sensitivity of the excited ultrahigh-order modes in the waveguide,a tiny variation of the extinction coefficient of the manganese solution concentration which acts as the guiding layer of the waveguide can lead to a significant change in the depth of refractivity. And the extinction coefficients of the sample is closely related to its concentration. In this way, variation of the manganese solution concentration can be determined by the minimum reflectivity change.Simulation results show that the detection resolution of the extinction coefficient can reach Δκ=1.0×10-6.
