Abstract: To elucidate the biological functions of the aquaporin (AQP) gene family in the growth and development of Zea mays, bioinformatics methods were used to identify and analyze the members of AQP gene family in Zea mays. The results showed that there were 28 members in the maize AQP gene family;the AQP sequences of the members contained 211 to 302 amino acids and exhibit high stability;the AQP gene family in maize is primarily divided into four subfamilies:PIP,NIP,TIP,and SIP,containing 8,7,10,and 3 genes, respectively;the spatial structures of proteins in each subgroup are similar and highly conserved.

Key words: Zea mays, aquaporins, moisture transport, bioinformatics
