Abstract: Fluent was used to simulate the flow characteristics of a DN 1 500 flue gas damper. Flue gas mass flows and velocity vector  were obtained when the damper pressure drop were 100, 300, 500, 700, 1 000 Pa respectively and the damper opening were 10°, 20°, 30°, 40°, 50°, 60°, 70°, 80°, 90° respectively. The influence of pressure drop on flue gas mass flow and flow field were analyzed. Moreover, the piecewise function of flow characteristics corresponding to damper pressure drop of 100 Pa was fitted. The results showed that to have pressure drop less than 100 Pa, the flue gas mass flow with full opening of damper should not exceed 25.05 kg/s. With possible wear, damper should not be operated in narrow angle for long time. It is appropriate to operate the damper in 23°~81° to control the flue gas mass flow.

Key words: flue gas damper, flow characteristics, numerical simulation, mass flow, velocity vector
